MATRIX BIOCHEMISTRY

Mission

My laboratory concentrates on the roles that the SIBLING family of small integrin-binding proteins play in normal and diseased tissues. The SIBLING family currently includes: bone sialoprotein (BSP encoded by the gene IBSP), dentin matrix protein-1 (DMP1), dentin sialophosphoprotein (DSPP), matrix extracellular phosphoglycoprotein (MEPE), and osteopontin (OPN, encoded by SPPI gene). The genes are a tandem cluster on human chromosome 4 (mouse 5). Although first thought to be specific for bones and teeth, the SIBLNGs are also expressed in normal, metabolically active ductal epithelial cells and are highly up-regulated in many cancers.

As a service to our colleagues, we will provide a limited amount of rabbit polyclonal antisera and/or cDNA to a variety of human and animal model noncollagenous proteins. Each request must be filed with: 1) a statement of the experiments for which the probes will be used; 2) a completed Materials Transfer Agreement; and, for studies using human materials, 3) letter stating that all of NIH's and all local guidelines for patient care and confidentiality will be followed. You can see all the detail about how to request our reagents from our reagents web page.
